The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services plans to roll back regulations on a key early education program for low-income families, the agency announced Thursday.
The program, known as Head Start, provides early childhood education, nutritious meals, health screenings and other services to more than 23,000 children and their families across Georgia, according to the Georgia Head Start Association.

President Donald Trump on Thursday signed two executive orders in his second attempt to deny citizenship to babies born to noncitizens, following the Supreme Court’s defeat this summer of an earlier order to redefine birthright citizenship.
Trump said the Supreme Court ruling was “an unfortunate decision” so “we’re making adjustments” to birthright citizenship, which is included in the U.S. Constitution’s 14th Amendment.
Both executive orders are likely to face swift legal challenges, possibly all the way to the Supreme Court again.

Two courts this week dealt blows to the Trump administration’s attempts to withdraw clean energy and climate grants.
A federal appeals court on Tuesday ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency could not terminate $20 billion in clean energy grants awarded to nonprofit groups.
And a federal judge on Monday denied the Trump administration’s attempt to halt a court order to restore $1.6 billion in climate justice grants, saying the Environmental Protection Agency must reinstate the money.
