SOCIAL SECURITY

By Jennifer Shutt

Congress must act to shore up Social Security during the next six years to avoid an automatic drop-off in benefits in 2032, according to a report released Tuesday.

The annual update on the Old Age and Survivors Insurance trust fund shows that it will “become depleted” in the fourth quarter of that year, a few months earlier than projected in last year’s report.

PRIVATE EQUITY

By Anna Claire Vollers

Private equity’s foray into healthcare over the past several years, particularly into hospital ownership, has drawn public outrage and legislative scrutiny.

It’s all happening as states are staring down steep federal cuts to Medicaid, the public health insurance for people with low incomes that is also the primary payer for long-term nursing home stays. Those cuts, experts fear, could ultimately direct more older Americans into nursing home care.

2026 PRIMARY ELECTION

By Georgia Recorder staff

A lot was decided during May 19’s primary election, but plenty of important races are still up in the air.

Georgia requires candidates to win the majority of the vote, so in cases where nobody exceeded 50%, the top two vote-getters will have a rematch June 16.
