Georgia Democrats had seven candidates to choose from for their nomination for governor, but they knew who they wanted – former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.
Bottoms won a majority in the Democratic primary Tuesday according to The Associated Press, clinching her party’s nod without the need for a runoff.

Georgia’s U.S. Senate primary race is headed to a runoff on the Republican side between Congressman Mike Collins and former University of Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley.
The Associated Press called the race for Collins, who finished first, and Dooley after he battled it out with Congressman Buddy Carter for second place.

A bruising fight between two Georgia Republican frontrunners for governor will continue for a few more weeks.
Neither Lt. Gov. Burt Jones nor wealthy healthcare executive Rick Jackson received over 50% of the vote Tuesday, each getting about 38% and 33%, respectively, according to unofficial results from the Georgia Secretary of State’s website as of early Wednesday morning.
Jones and Jackson will face off in a runoff for the Republican nomination on June 16.

Two Republican-appointed Georgia Supreme Court justices managed to fend off a pair of Democratic-backed challengers in a hotly contested battle over the direction of Georgia’s highest court Tuesday.
Judicial candidates are elected on a nonpartisan ticket, and they are decided during the May primary rather than the November general election.
